The name of the program is Proud to Be. The theme of the program
is culture, pride and respect, (CPR).
CPR is a procedure which resuscitates life. The You In Me, Inc.,
believes this program brings back to life the power and beauty of
art and utilizes it as a educational tool to showcase the continual
need and importance of cultural education and overall diversity.
Culture, pride, respect and art are our goals. The teachers and
students participating in this program will be learning about art
and culture through an active learning process which encourages
teacher-student interaction through various hands on art activities.
The educational process will take place over 4 steps, three of which
are culminated in art projects designed to allow the students to
learn about art and demonstrate their cultures through, visual arts,
writing exercises, research and group activities. Through this process
they will research the positive ways their cultures have been represented,
seen, or contributed to their surrounding communities and gain a
greater understanding and appreciation for the arts and its role
in our society. At the end of the program, highlighting the 4 step
educational process, the students will be able to express all they
have learned in a final art exhibition to be shared with the school
This program is a dual facetted design. One facet is designed to
help teachers motivate their students into researching, exploring
and learning about their own cultures as well as the opportunity
to be immersed in another culture through personal exploration,
and family or community participation. The second facet is to provide
art lessons, art activities and an art exhibition to educate and
demonstrate to teachers and students the beauty, value and power
of art and its role in education, communication, motivation and
The overall program will help to develop and improve critical thinking
skills, enhance the existing curriculum and create a greater understanding
of art, culture, the importance of pride and the need for respect.
All together, this art and diversity education program becomes an
exhilarating experience for the teacher, students, families, school
and community in general.
PROGRAM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
1.) Start the development of cultural appreciation and reflection
plan that will help students develop an understanding of their own
and various cultures within the school and community at large.
2.) Educate teachers and students on the basics of art education,
