HISTORY:
The You In Me Inc. Building Bridges Book Club was created to provide education to our community. The goal of the Building Bridges Book Club is to learn about the many cultures and ethnicities throughout our state, country and world by reading, discussing  and enjoying various pieces of literature.

The club was created on July 21, 2002.  Our first book was All About Love: New Visions by Bell Hooks.  We started with about 4 or 5 people in attendance and have grown to over 20.  We now have two discussion groups.  One group meets at a local coffee shop or library and the other group meets at various diverse restaurants.  Some folks enjoy coming to both discussion groups.

Some of the books we have read are:

  • Prodigal Summer
  • Zoya’s Story
  • An Afghan Woman’s Struggle For Freedom
  • Portrait in Sepia
  • Check All That Apply: Finding Wholeness As A Multiracial Person
  • A Step From Heaven
  • Interpreter of Maladies
  • A Single Square Picture
  • The House of Sand and Fog
  • The Secret Life of Bees
  • The Nazi Officer’s Wife
  • Branded T
  • Funny In Farsi
  • Nisei Daughter
  • The Chopstick-Fork Principle
  • Kite Runner
  • Dreams From My Father
  • The Spirit Catches You And You Fall Down
  • The Woman Warrior
  • Dear Senator: A Memoir by the Daughter of Strom Thurmond
  • Blood Brothers
  • Freshwater Road
  • Bookseller of Kabul

The club also enjoys special events such as guest authors, movie day and field trips to book stores and author presentations.
